TMS Classroom Expectations
In addition to abiding by the school rules, listed below are the classroom expectations that you will be required to live up to as TMS student. These expectations are consistent for all students, and you will be responsible for following them in all classrooms. If you fail to meet these expectations, the consequences for your actions will also be the same for each classroom.
Classroom Rules:
READINESS
- I understand that I am expected to be on time and prepared for class.
- I will BRING MY AGENDA and a chapter book to each class every day.
- I will have my pencil sharpened before class starts.
- I will have all necessary materials for class on my desk by the time
the bell rings.
- I will be in my seat working quietly by the time the bell rings.
- I will bring my I.D. every day.
- I will use my locker during designated times only.
- I will leave my backpack in my locker during the school day.
- I will use the restroom and get a drink during passing time.
- I will keep my cell phone OFF during school AND academic activities.
- I will leave ALL other electronic devices at HOME.
RESPECT
- I understand that I am expected to behave appropriately in class.
- I will be respectful of myself, teachers/staff, guests, other students, and property at
all times.
I will maintain a positive attitude and never criticize, make fun of, or give
dirty looks to anyone else inside or outside the classroom.
-
I will raise my hand to ask a question or to make an appropriate on-topic
comment.
I will not blurt out in class or chat with my neighbor, because this would
prevent me from listening while the teacher or other students are speaking.
I will sit correctly in my desk at all times.
I will use the correct voice level at all times. While the teacher or another
student is speaking, my voice will be “off.”
- NO GUM
RESPONSIBILITY
- I understand that I am expected to use class time productively.
- I will produce quality work on time - class work will be finished before class
ends, and homework assignments will be completed by their due date.
- I will strive to meet or exceed teacher expectations.
- I will read a chapter book, do homework for any class, or do an enrichment
activity once I have completed my class work.
Consequences:
-
Level 1: Verbal warning.
- Level 2: Loss of 2 minutes during passing time.
- Level 3: Phone call to parent/guardian describing behavior and future
consequences, and loss of 2 minutes during passing time.
- Level 4: Phone call to parent/guardian describing behavior and detention the
following day, as well as, loss of 2 minutes during passing time.
- Level 5: Referral to the office.
I understand that each night I am expected to complete approximately sixty
minutes of homework for 6th grade, seventy minutes of homework for 7th grade,
and eighty minutes of homework for 8th grade, and I am responsible for turning
it in on time. If I fail to bring my completed assignment to class on its due date, the following consequences will always apply:
- I will make a phone call home during class to notify parents that I need to
come in the following day for detention. If I fail to complete more than
one assignment, I will serve multiple detentions so that all assignments
can be completed.
- Since my work was not in class and/or completed on time, I understand that
I may receive less than full credit.
- If my missing assignments cause me to have a failing grade, I will participate
in the Promotions Plus program.
- I understand that as a middle school student, I will be held accountable for
taking ownership of my own learning.
- If I have an excused absence, it is MY responsibility to meet with my teachers
before or after school to find out what I missed. District policy states that I
have every day that I was absent plus one day to make up assignments.
- In general, if I fail to complete class work assignments, it is MY responsibility to
complete the assignment as homework and turn it in the next day.
